New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (NREDCAP) is planning to develop 800 MW pumped storage project in Salakkam Chevvuru village in Singanamala Tehsil in Ananthapuramu district of Andhra Pradesh. Land required for the project is around 480 hectares. The reservoir is not located on any river course but it may be using the river water of Penna river through Chagallu barrage. The project cost is estimated at ₹ 4,570 crores. The dam will be of a rock fill and concrete spillway and the power project will be used to meet peak power demand.
